We are a dynamic team from the Midwest, driven by our shared passion for Kava and a commitment to bringing its calming benefits to the world. Founder Midori Von Bargen brings a strong foundation in business management combined with a deep passion for health and wellness. Co-founder Taylor Kephart, a seasoned expert in the local drink industry, has spent years crafting innovative cocktail menus for popular local bars. His passion for creating unique and memorable experiences led him to explore healthier alternatives, eventually discovering the calming, community-centered benefits of kava.
The idea for LOMI came to Midori a few years ago as she stumbled upon an unconventional bar while vacationing in Florida. It didn’t serve alcohol, wine, or beer but offered something called Kava. Often confused with the Spanish wine "Cava," Kava is a root from the South Pacific islands consumed in place of alcohol for over 3,000 years. This bar served Kava in a coconut shell, and she was immediately captivated. As Midori researched further, she discovered that Kava offers a range of health benefits, including relief from anxiety, stress, and PMS, while being non-addictive. The experience of drinking Kava brings a sense of contentment, sociability, and deep relaxation, which convinced her that this remarkable product should be more widely available.
